Building a Ministry with Lasting Impact: Word of Life Mozambique
For over 15 years, Word of Life Mozambique has impacted communities through youth camps, Bible Clubs, and leadership training. What began as a humble vision has grown into a dynamic ministry with deep roots across the nation. From the bustling city of Maputo to the serene Boane property, Word of Life has reached thousands while equipping the next generation of Christian leaders.
The heartbeat of this ministry is seen in its dedication to raising disciples and empowering church leaders through seminars, courses, and collaborative outreach programs. The Boane property, acquired in 2019, serves as a hub for year-round camps and training that supports an expanding network of Bible Clubs nationwide.
A Legacy of Dedication: Carlos Nogueira’s Journey from Brazil to Mozambique
Carlos Nogueira’s life has been deeply intertwined with Word of Life’s mission. Raised by missionary parents in Brazil during the 70s and 90s, Carlos’s ministry journey started early, attending Word of Life camps and studying at the Word of Life Bible Institute in Atibaia, Brazil. His passion led him to pastor the Evangelical Congregational Church in Atibaia, where he fostered a thriving congregation and vibrant youth ministry.
Carlos also served as a professor at the Word of Life Bible Seminary and frequently spoke at national events. His and his wife Mary Joe’s call to serve extended beyond Brazil when, in 2006, they joined John Reimer and the Word of Life Brazil leadership team in scouting opportunities for ministry in Africa. Their shared vision culminated in a life-changing trip to Angola, Mozambique, and South Africa.
By 2009, Carlos and Mary Joe relocated to Maputo, Mozambique, to lay the groundwork for Word of Life Mozambique, leaving behind their grown daughters and the comfort of the familiar. Joined soon by fellow missionaries Eneias and Bibiana, they began the ministry with Bible Clubs, seminary teaching, and tent camps.
Over the years, the team expanded, welcoming Brazilian and Mozambican families who were trained at the Word of Life Seminary in Brazil. Today, Word of Life Mozambique has a robust team of eight couples who lead ministries in three strategic locations.
A New Chapter: Leadership Transition to Antonio Gune
In October 2024, as Word of Life Mozambique celebrated 15 years of fruitful ministry, a significant leadership transition took place. Carlos Nogueira passed the torch to Antonio Gune, a Mozambican leader he had personally mentored. Antonio, who trained at the Word of Life Seminary in Brazil, is now poised to guide the ministry into its next chapter.
Carlos’s journey doesn’t end here. He plans to continue supporting the growth of ministries across Southern Africa, focusing on mentoring leaders and encouraging new initiatives. Meanwhile, Antonio’s leadership will build upon the foundation laid by Carlos and Mary Joe.
Please Pray
- Pray for Antonio Gune as he steps into his new leadership role.
- Pray for Carlos as he continues to guide and mentor leaders in Southern Africa.
- Pray for the families serving in Mozambique amid political challenges, seeking God’s protection and support.
