25 Years of Life Change: Celebrating a Powerful Camp Season in Peru
In January and February 2025, Word of Life Peru celebrated 25 years of camp ministry—and it was a powerful celebration of God’s faithfulness. As campers arrived on the Cañete property each week, the evidence of God’s hand at work was unmistakable.
During this summer season, the camp welcomed 1,680 campers, many of whom came burdened, spiritually searching, or confused—but left transformed by the power of the Gospel. Over several weeks, 417 campers placed their faith in Christ, and 810 dedicated their lives to the Lord.
These figures represent far more than numbers—they reflect real stories of redemption, healing, and hope. Campers came from a variety of backgrounds: some from Catholic traditions deeply rooted in works-based theology, others from communities scarred by violence, addiction, and fear. Regardless of their pasts, each one encountered the unchanging truth of God’s Word.
A Summer of Transformation: Salvations and Dedications
Joaquin, age 18, had been studying in a Catholic seminary and believed his good works would earn God’s approval. The Gospel message he heard at camp challenged everything he thought he knew. “It wasn’t until Thursday at the campfire that I decided to abandon my Catholic beliefs and put my faith in Jesus as my personal Savior,” Joaquin said. He now hopes to return to the Discipleship Training Center (DTC) to grow in his newfound faith.
Fabiola, 15, had been silently battling shame and secret sin. “Here, I had to be honest,” she shared. “On Tuesday, I received Jesus as my Savior and Lord.” Fabiola also chose to dedicate her life to God, committing to a life of purity and accountability.
Santiago, 13, came from a neighborhood where drugs, theft, and even murder were part of daily life. “Even though I’d heard about Jesus before, it’s been hard for me to obey God,” he admitted. But after deep conversations with his counselor, Santiago placed his faith in Christ and dedicated his life to following Him. “I want to let God work in my life and stop doing the things I did before,” he said.
The 2025 camp season held added significance as it also marked the 25th anniversary of Word of Life Camps in Peru. On February 15, pastors, church leaders, and longtime friends of the ministry gathered on the Cañete property to celebrate all that God has done over the past two and a half decades.
Kris Stout, Executive Vice President of International Ministries for Word of Life Fellowship, joined the final week of camp and spoke at the anniversary celebration.
The event was filled with memorable and meaningful moments—photo and video retrospectives of the property’s development, testimonies from former campers now serving in full-time ministry, and a joyful time of singing “Happy Birthday” as the entire WOL Peru team took the stage.
As the team at Word of Life Peru reflects on 25 years of ministry, there is deep gratitude for what God has done and eager anticipation for what He will do next. The stories of life change this season are just a glimpse of the impact the Gospel continues to have on young lives in Peru.
