In Jeju, South Korea, God is using student leaders, local churches, and faithful discipleship to make the gospel known.
Recently, Jacob Morse, Director of South Korea, shared a story from Jeju that reminded us of a simple but powerful truth: when students are equipped with the gospel, they can become bold witnesses for Christ right where God has placed them.
And that is exactly what happened.
Equipping the Next Generation
One of the graduates of Word of Life Bible Institute Jeju, Caleb, is now serving as a youth pastor in a local church. As the Word of Life team shared their vision with him, Caleb saw an opportunity for his own students.
He asked the team to come and provide training specifically for the student leaders in his church.
So, for four Saturdays in March, the Word of Life South Korea team met with 16 student leaders. The focus was simple and intentional: help them understand the gospel clearly and train them to share it with their friends. During the second week of training, the lesson focused specifically on the content of the gospel – who Jesus is, what He has done, and how a person can place their faith in Him.
That day, eight of the student leaders trusted Christ. Before they could share the gospel with others, God was first working in their own hearts.
Students Reaching Students
The training did not stop with those 16 student leaders. On the last Saturday of March, each student was encouraged to bring at least one unsaved friend with them to church. The plan was for the students to enjoy games together, then have an opportunity to share the gospel with the friends they had invited. These students had just spent weeks learning the gospel. Now, they were being challenged to share it.
After the games, the students moved into gospel conversations. They practiced what they had learned. They shared the truth of Jesus with their friends. And through those conversations, eight more students placed their faith in Christ that day.
In total, 16 students trusted Christ through this training and outreach.
What started as a discipleship opportunity for student leaders became a moment of transformation for their friends as well.
