Situated on the Black Sea, Romania is a country whose history is marked by both a rich Medieval heritage and the scars of communism and religious persecution. Romanians enjoy freedom of worship today, which means that new doors have opened for the good news of Jesus to be shared. In a nation where only 3.5 percent of the population claim to be believers, Word of Life missionaries are seeking to reach the hearts of young people with the light of Christ.
Avenues for the Good News
Youth camps have been a key part of Word of Life’s ministry in Romania ever since this location was founded in the early nineties. Today, camp continues to be an impactful avenue for sharing God’s love with teens and children. Over the past summer camp season alone, Word of Life Romania welcomed 479 campers through six weeks of camp. Of these campers, 183 trusted Christ as Savior and 236 dedicated their lives to Him!
In October, Word of Life Romania also organized a youth conference for about 120 young people. During this event, Romanian students were challenged to approach life from an eternal perspective and to impact their world wherever God has placed them.
Stefan’s Story
Below is the story of one young Romanian whose life has been forever changed by the gospel.
“Stefan* is a young man who has lived in an orphanage since the age of four when his father went to prison and his mother abandoned him. He lived a life without hope, full of hatred and violence, until he trusted Christ as his Savior a few years ago. Stefan served as a camp counselor this past summer and had a great impact on the lives of many campers. Though he and his brothers still live in an orphanage, he has hope and is light in the darkness around him.”
